When this
exhaust system was fabricated the engine was naturally
aspirated, now with the horspower this engine is
pulling at some stage we will need to replace the
system with new headers [2" primary pipes]
and
a 3 1/2" twin system
Extractors
4-1 Tuned Length
Step up Headers
: Step
Up Flange Plates
: 1 3/4" Runners 12" long
:1 7/8" Runners 20" long
: Slip on Collectors
All our custom headers are
made
so the firing order is in sequence,
The drivers side was hard,
clearing the steering box, steering arm, starter
motor , keeping all pipes in the correct firing
order and the right length
The left
hand side has plenty of room,a little tight around
the clutch slave cylinder.
The slip on collectors make
it a little easier with the removal and installation
of the pipes
These headers are now available
for the 351 windsor engine

The Clutch slave cylinder
is kept well away from the extractors

The "X"
System
The exhaust gases from left and right extractor mix
in the x section, this evens out the exhaust gas back
pressure ,giving the engine a much smoother note.
A slight reduction in overall diameter in the x area,
the exhaust gas speed increases through the x which
helps [slightly] by creating a scavenging effect
The car
was sent to the dyno with no tailpipes at this stage
so we could test some mufflers. The Xforce mufflers
VX05 3" had the same flow rate as as straight
pipe and they sounded the best. After 3" Custom
stainless steel tailpipes were installed we went back
to the dyno. With the exhaust system dropped at the
extractors [open pipes] the car lost 5hp at the wheels
The new extractors and x system gained 35hp at the
wheels, from the previous extractors and 3" exhaust.
3" Stainless Steel tailpipes
finish this system
I recommend 2 1/2" tailpipes for street driving,
keeps the sound level under 96dba [legal] drops
the power output slightly but the noise reduction
is worth it,the smaller the tailpipes the less amount
of exhaust noise By flanging the mufflers you can
just unbolt the smaller tailpipes for the 1/4 mile.
